  • 1 cup short-grain rice Ponni/ kolam/Sona masoori rice or 500 gm Boiled rice, soaked for 20 minutes (about 180g)
  • 3 tablespoons sunflower or vegetable oil
  • 1/8 teaspoon asafoetida hing
  • 1/2 tablespoon black mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tablespoon fennel seeds
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons chana dal Bengal gram
  • 1 no medium red onion chopped
  • 6-7 cloves of garlic chopped
  • 1/2 inch chopped ginger
  • 2 no sprigs of curry leaves
  • 3 no medium tomatoes chopped
  • 1 tablespoon table salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel powder
  • 1 tablespoon red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves chopped
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp Mint leaves chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ghee

Instructions

  • Prepare the Rice: Rinse and soak the short-grain rice (Kolam rice) in water for about 20 minutes. Drain and cook in boiling water
